HASTINGS United could feel the full backlash of Worcester City's frustration at their recent goalscoring drought.

That's the view of newcomer Adam Wilde as second-placed City prepare for a long trip to the Sussex coast in the Dr Martens Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

City go into the match at the Pilot Field without a goal in more than six hours of football, and they desperately need to give their title hopes a timely boost.

But winger Wilde, a recent £7,500 signing from Cambridge City, said: "We are just having a little drought at the moment, which happens to all teams at some stage.

"Someone is eventually going to get a hammering from us, and hopefully it will be Hastings."

To change the routine a little City will travel down to Hastings tonight and make an overnight stop.

Wilde added: "It's a bit different to what we usually do but it does mean all the lads are together having a laugh and a joke, and that can only be good for team spirit."

Wilde also vowed no-one would be thinking ahead to next Saturday's big FA Trophy clash with Aldershot Town, preferring to concentrate on the Hastings game.

He added: "That is what I moved here for, to play in games like the Aldershot game. There should be a very big crowd and it is exciting to think about it.

"But we won't be thinking about it until after tomorrow. We are trying to get back to goalscoring ways at Hastings and that is the priority."

Tomorrow sees City's first return fixture of the season, having beaten newly-promoted Hastings 2-1 at St George's Lane on the opening day of the season thanks to a late winner from Jon Holloway.

But George Wakeling's eighth-placed side will be tough opponents and have recorded some impressive results this season -- notably a 5-0 FA Cup win at Conference side Kettering.

City's assistant boss Mick Tuohy said: "When we met on the opening day I think overall we had the better of the chances and deserved to win, but up front they were quite tricky, and we were indebted to Danny McDonnell on a couple of occasions."

Tuohy says City have benefited from a two-week break. "We have done a lot of work on our shape and also on our attacking play.

"We are disappointed that we haven't been scoring lately but we are still second in the league, having had our first poor spell of the season.

"We've still lost only two league games and that is a credit to everybody. Let's look on the bright side - we are only a third of the way through the season and there's a hell of a lot of work still to be done."

City's reserves entertain Barwell tomorrow (2.45) in the Midland Combination.
