WORCESTER City's loan signing Mark Blount admits if he fails to win back a first team place at Burton Albion he would have to consider his future.

Burton boss Nigel Clough sent the defender to City to boost his fitness after a spell out through injury but with six centre-halves in the squad Blount faces stiff competition for a starting place.

"Cloughie has told me to go out and get fit and if he puts me back in then obviously I want to stay and play in the Conference," he said.

"But it's a big squad, we've got six centre-halves, and if I found myself in the same position on the bench then I'd rather be playing first team football in the Dr Martens Premier Division."

Blount played a key role in City's return to the top of the table on Saturday with the opening goal in their 2-1 win at Tamworth.

Blount's last game before his loan expires is due to be the Moor Green match on January 25 but with injuries once again stacking up for City John Barton may be tempted to keep him at the club for the championship run-in.
