A FEW weeks ago, I told of Peter Luff's delight at receiving a letter from world-famous US novelist, playwright and political columnist Gore Vidal.
Unfortunately, it had been a case of mistaken identity - with Mr Vidal actually seeking to track down a Peter Luff of a different political persuasion.
(The other one is a friend of actor John Cleese and had close links to the former SDP party.)
But Peter felt honoured to write back to Mr Vidal anyway, to point out the confusion.
This week his hopes of receiving another letter, thanking him for clearing up the matter, were dashed.
His letter to Mr Vidal was returned undelivered, carrying the words: "Address expired."
