DION Scott and Hugh McAuley are the first two casualties of boss Ian Britton's summer rebuilding at Kidderminster Harriers.

The duo, both given a chance to shine by Britton after being released by Mansfield and Cheltenham respectively, will not be offered new deals for next season.

Scott, tipped as the no-nonsense man the club were looking for in defence, became a key figure, playing 19 games and heading home the equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Carlisle.

But the centre-back fell foul of the defensive errors that cost Harriers their play-off bid, including a vital slip-up to hand Hartlepool an equaliser at Aggborough.

McAuley, a midfielder or forward who was once top scorer for Leek in the Conference, failed to start a game, only making four substitute appearances after signing on transfer deadline day.

Ex-Walsall man Scott, 22, and former Liverpool trainee McAuley, who was 26 on Tuesday, are now searching for new clubs.

Manager Britton said: "This season will be financially harder for the club and unfortunately I can't keep everybody.

"Hugh's attitude has been first class since he's been here but I have to look at the bigger picture.

"Dion did very well for us and I'm sure he'll find another club very quickly.

"He's obviously disappointed not to have been offered a new deal but, as with Hugh, the make up of the squad for next season will be heavily influenced by the lack of money I have available."
