WORCESTER City groundsman Chris Dale has resigned following comments made by manager John Barton about the state of the pitch.

The St George's Lane boss has been unhappy about the playing surface and after the recent Bath City game described it as a 'disgrace'.

Dale has faced a difficult job, juggling tight regulations by the water authorities and coping with the driest spell in history but felt his position had become untenable in light of Barton's outburst.

"I was unhappy with the manager's comments and more disappointed that, following discussions, John Barton has not chosen to speak to me before or since," he said.

"I feel I have got no alternative than to step down because my position has become untenable.

"It's sad but I would like to say it's been a great honour to serve the club I have supported since I was seven."

Meanwhile, Danny McDonnell has been crowned both the Supporters and the Players' Player of the Year at the club's centenary dinner.

McDonnell becomes only the second City goalkeeper to pick up the Supporters Player of the Year award in it's 40- year history, the other being Mark Gayle.

Dan Jones picked up the Young Player of the Year award, while Adam Webster collected the most improved player.
