WITH Malvern Wells basking in glorious sunshine and little wind, more than 120 Worcestershire Golf Club members competed in the Wormington Salver stableford competition.

In Division One, 38 points was a popular score in that five out of the first six players all returned that figure.

The competitions committee was kept quite busy as they separated the five players on the usual count back system.

As a result, single figure handicap player, Julian Bouchet was placed fifth. Andy McClelland was placed fourth, Pete Sheward third and Dave Farrell second.

The winner of Division One however was Simon Eales, who returned a score of 39 points.

No one could compete on the day with John Daly, playing in Division Two. John played excellent golf throughout his round and returned to the clubhouse with the incredible score of 48 points, 12 points better than par.

John was 11 points better than Dave Farley who came second with 37 points. Senior golfer Dave Mackie was third with 37 points and former club captain Terry Price, fourth with 36 points.

Two players, Les Facer and Ian Anderson, returned the excellent score of 41 points in Division Three. Les was placed first and Ian second on count back, David Cheale was third on 38 points.

During the competition Mick Lloyd achieved a 'Hole in One' at the par three, fifth hole.

The winner of the Wormington Salver was John Daly with his score of 48 points.

In the April mid week medal competition Mick Lloyd returned the best score of the day in Division One with a net 66.

Former senior captain Brian Tainton was second with a 67 and former club captain Tony Rogers third with a 69.

In Division Two veteran golfer Brian Hawkings was third with a 71, Steve Cooper second with a 70 and the winner was Dudley Haigh with 69.

In Division One of the ladies' stableford competition three players returned scores better than par.

The former lady captain June Jones achieved third place with 37 points, in second place, with a score of 39 points was Sally Dare.

The winner of Division One was Jos Douglas-Pennant who returned the excellent score of 42 points. As a result Jos Douglas-Pennant's handicap has been reduced to 16.

Five ladies bettered par in Division Two. Liz Bird was placed fifth with 36 points, the same score as Trina Smith who was placed fourth.

In third place with a score of 37 points was the former lady captain Jean Coleman whose game continues to improve. Margaret Duncan came second with 37 points.

Judy Vincent ran out the winner in Division Two with 39 points. In the 41-45 handicaps Division no player bettered par.

Barbara Teale won the competition with 34 points with Faith Tubb coming second and Teresa Jackson third.
