YOUNG venue regular Chris Senter (Alans Tackle) comfortably doubled his nearest rival's weight to win on a rock-hard Brockamin fishery.

The bottom lake on the complex was in a dour mood but Senter read the signs early and tackled the match with a waggler and meat approach on his peg 33, netting four similar sized carp throughout the day which tipped the scales at 29-0-0.

Forsaking his usual small fish tactics was Jerry Thomas (Disco boys) whose swimfeeder and maggot rig on peg 37 responded three times to carp which together went 12-10-0.

Worcester's Andy Yeomens took third place with three carp weighing 9-2-0 from peg 39 while in fourth spot came seasoned campaigner Colin Newman (Greenman) who, after loosing four fish on peg 31, did manage to hold on to one pole caught carp weighing 7-12-0.

n Birmingham towpath star Mal Galliers scored his second successive victory when he once again took the top place on the latest WDUAA open.

The canal behind the football ground was, in keeping with most venues during the holiday period, in a very difficult mood and Galliers had to call on his many years of match fishing experience in order to pull a win out of the bag.

Pegged on permanent 132 next to the Cavalier bridge, Galliers couldn't understand why the peg is normally left out in opens when he found a mixed bag of perch, roach and gudgeon almost from the start.

Maggot presented well across to the far side open bank was the successful bait employed by the star which saw him end the contest with an unbeatable 5-4-0.

Way back in second was the previous week's runner up Tim Hunt (Woof's Tackle) who netted 2-4-11 consisting of one big perch and a few roach which accepted his maggot offering pole fished across to the opposite reed bed on peg 126.

Close behind in third was Barnard Green's Paul Harris with 2-2-9 of roach caught using worm and caster on peg 128 while in fourth came Galliers travelling partner Brian Jarvis (Birmingham) with 2-0-15 of bits from peg 127.

There will be another open on the venue this Sunday draw at the Cavalier at 8.30am. The following Sunday sees WDUAA host the popular Geoff Tibbetts Memorial match on the canal, details for both events from Colin Pettifer on 01905-25193. Also the association is on the look out for a junior match organiser to look after the Monday evening contests on the canal, anyone interested should contact Colin an the same telephone number.

n Catches are improving at Moorlands Farm where over 100lbs is now frequently needed to secure first place. The latest open on the Meadow was no exception with Bilston's Colin Pace taking 116-8-0 of carp on corn at just four metres on peg 58 to secure yet another victory at the venue.

Runner up Mal Coley (West Mids.) netted 88-11-0 while venue expert David James (Trabucco) had to settle for third this time with a weight of 83-13-0.

The previous day's junior open saw the youngsters record some good catches with Frazer Hall (Stourport) winning with 44-14-0 from Island peg 28. Second was Worcester's Mathew Makin with a level 43-0-0 and third came Brendan Healy with 32-10-0.

n Saturday Open; 1 J. Neath 138-13-0, 2 D. Clewley 128-5-0, 3 M. Henshall 99-11-0. Saturday Evening; 1 D. James 133-0-0, 2 V. Bush 124-14-0. Sunday Open; 1 C. Cameron 112-0-0, 2 C. Hill 93-5-0, 3 M. Talbot 87-0-0.

Prospects: The local canal is still producing good pleasure nets with boat traffic suprisingly low for this time of year. Stillwaters remain temperamental with carp dramatically affected by overnight temperatures, midday sessions being best.
