THE Churches Together in Evesham and District Walk of Witness in the town on Good Friday was well supported.

"We had a good turnout of people from nearly every church in the district," said Betty Gould, of Churches Together in Evesham and District.

The walk started at the bottom of Bridge Street with prayers, a reading and a hymn and music supplied by musicians from the Methodist Church.

The silent walk, headed by the Cross, continues into the Riverside Shopping Centre for more prayers, a reading and a hymn, and then on to outside All Saints' Church for another short service.

The final stage of the walk was into Abbey Park where, near the site of the Abbey High Altar, another reading, prayer and hymn, was followed by the planting of the Cross where it remained over the weekend.

"This is something we have been doing for 20 years, first as a Procession of Witness along the High Street and latterly as a Walk of Witness from Bridge Street," Miss Gould said.

"Support has grown over the years and it is an important part of our Church year."

l Scores of people from villages around Bredon Hill walked to the tower on top of the Hill for an ecumenical service on Good Friday afternoon.

Crosses were carried up the hill and planted at the site of the service where the hymns were accompanied by members of the Pershore Perscoran Band.
