I THOUGHT that the criticism of police Inspector Jim Baker meted out by Bewdley town councillors Paul and Carol Gittins (Shuttle/Times & News Letters, April 17) was way off the mark.

It seems there is no way of pleasing some people as far as the actions of our local police officers are concerned.

Although I was not at the meeting to discuss the issue of illegal parking of motorcycles along Severnside North, Bewdley, I am a former resident of the road and have direct experience of the issue.

I can understand and accept the fact that the police officers serving our community are required to do so in an environment of competing priorities.

Feeling "let down and disgusted" merely because Insp Baker explained to the meeting that his officers are sometimes required to prioritise scarce resources on more important issues than moving along a few motorbikes parked along the street, reveals a total lack of appreciation for the more important work carried out by the police 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Improving the safety and security of ourselves, our families and our property by continuing to reduce the likelihood of having our homes burgled, our local businesses robbed, our vehicles stolen and so on, are precisely the areas of work I would prefer our local police officers to prioritise.

Poor show, councillors.
