A PENSIONER has vowed not to change his lifestyle after he was attacked and robbed while walking home in a quiet cul-de-sac.

The 75-year-old, who wishes to remain anonymous, was hit on the head with what he believes was a cosh or truncheon and pinned to the ground for just £10.

"It's made me very angry - it's not made me frightened," said the former design engineer.

"I've got to do something to prevent myself being subjected to this in future but I'm not going to change my lifestyle."

He praised the police but said there should be more legal protection for people who act in self-defence and tougher penalties for offenders.

The victim said he would have been "vicious in his response" if had got hold of his assailant.

The attack happened as the pensioner walked up Brecknell Rise, Kidderminster, at 10.40pm on Monday.

As he crossed the road one man - or possibly several - jumped out from a shadow and struck him on his left temple, forcing him to the ground where he was held face down.

"I gave in and said there's money in my back pocket - £10 - take it."

Despite blood temporarily blinding his left eye he saw a young man - whom he said was almost certainly his attacker - flee back down the street and turn right up Stourbridge Road towards Broadwaters.

The victim was treated at Kidderminster Hospital for his head wound but he said he was still bleeding internally, had lost feeling in his lip and had damaged his left knee while being held down.

But the pensioner said he could have been more seriously injured.

"Had he hit me an inch further up I would have had a fractured skull," he said.

The attacker is described as white, 5 ft 11 ins, of proportionate build and was wearing dark clothing.
