I was thankful to read about the majority decision of our Town Councillors to refuse permission to a nightclub's application to stay open all day on Sundays. Are there really not already enough drinking hours for people?

Has there not been enough erosion into what we Christians view as a day different from the other six.

If people wish to drink (and get drunk) that is their choice but it is their subsequent behaviour which affects so many others.

Cowl Street already sees enough disturbing behaviour after closing hours.

I am sure many others will thank the councillors for saying no, although I realise the battle is not won. The matter now goes before the licensing sub-committee but I hope and pray they will think seriously about the consequences of granting this application.

The Bible tells us 'Godliness exalts a nation (and a Town) but sin is a disgrace to any people' Proverbs 34 v 14.
