STOURPORT Swifts were left searching for their elusive first victory after a 1-0 Dr Martens Western Division defeat at Cinderford Town.

But although disappointed with the result, manager Tim Langford was delighted with the performance of his players.

Langford said: "On the balance of play we deserved something out of it. We are just lacking something in the final third."

But he admitted he needed to bring in some new faces, especially up front with Swifts continuing to struggle in front of goal.

Langford added: "It's paramount we get someone who can put the ball in the back of the net.

"We had possession but didn't create anything. The ball is getting up there but we are not getting hold of it or creating chances.

"It was a big improvement from our last two or three performances. We've just got to try and stop giving goals away."

Stourport had the better of things early on but failed to trouble the Cinderford keeper.

Scott Griffin missed the target on three occasions before heading narrowly over midway through the half.

Swifts keeper Rob Clarke spilled a Simon Truman free-kick on the half-hour before Jason Donovan again let the visitors off the hook when he headed wide when well placed at the start of the second period.

The breakthrough finally came ten minutes from time when a Tony Hopkins free-kick was hoisted into the box and Jayson Hoskins sneaked in unchallenged to head into the roof of the net.

Langford added: "The result was very disappointing but the performance was a lot better. We can build on that and take something into our next game."
