STOURPORT Swifts continued their steady climb up the Dr Martens Western Division table with a hard-earned point at home to Atherstone United.

The visitors looked to be heading for victory until recent signing Leon Blake secured a 1-1 draw four minutes from the end.

It was no more than the Swifts deserved with striker Michael Moore having a number of chances to haul the Walshes Meadow side level before Blake finally netted.

The visitors took just 14 minutes to open the scoring when Mark Corbett scored from close range after Kevin Charley's pass span across the sodden goalmouth.

Moore had an effort deflected over the bar from close range after collecting a John Shirley free-kick.

The recent signing went close again midway through the second period when he gathered a Tim Nicholls pass but fired over the bar despite ghosting his way behind the Adders defence.

With five minutes left, mid-table Atherstone almost put the game out of reach for Swifts.

Tim Lenton's corner caused mayhem in the Stourport area but when the ball fell to substitute Liam Leeson he was unable to force it over the line.

Bouyed by their good fortune, Swifts immediately hit back and levelled the scores.

Parfait Medou'Otye's cross was brilliantly flicked on by Moore to Blake and the former Hinckley United player fired home.
