PLAYER-boss Tim Langford is considering recalling himself to the Stourport Swifts side for Saturday's visit to Gloucester City.

The veteran striker wants to rest recent signing Andy Wright who is still being plagued by a hamstring strain.

Langford would then partner Kerry Giddings in attack as Swifts look for a result to keep them in the Dr Martens Western Division top five.

Wright, who joined from Rushall, scored his first league goal in the 4-0 beating of Rocester last weekend to add to a cup strike at Bromsgrove.

But he did not train this week and Langford admitted: "He could do with probably playing 45 minutes for a couple of weeks.

"His hamstring was why he came off on Saturday and why he didn't train on Tuesday."

Defender Steve Ulfig (knee) is still likely to be out, while Tim Nicholls, Alex Cowley and Rob Clarke are all carrying groin injuries.

Keeper Clarke has had trouble with his kicking but the problem is unlikely to mean him missing games.

Langford, whose team have lost just one of the last eight games, has admitted he is again thinking about resting several players if necessary.

And the Swifts man has warned his mean defence to be well aware of the threat of goal poacher Karl Bayliss.

Langford said: "If we want to consolidate our position, we must go to get something on Saturday and not get beaten.

"Gloucester have excellent facilities and an excellent pitch, I've been there two or three times before.

"I know they fight and scrap for everything as well as having a couple of decent players.

"The lad up-front Bayliss scored a few goals for Clevedon before he moved to Gloucester.

"But if we can play and pass as we have been doing then we can compete with the best in this division.

"It would be nice to be able to play with this squad in the games against Chester or Halesowen Town again.

"We feel a bit more confident and I think Halesowen would be a fair test for us now."

Swifts have rearranged their home game with Weston-super-Mare for Tuesday, April 16 (7.45pm).
