WINGER Alex Cowley hopes to become a Dr Martens League Premier Division player next season after joining rivals Halesowen Town on loan.

The 19-year-old former West Bromwich Albion trainee is bidding to impress Halesowen boss Brendan Phillips up until the end of the season and earn a permananet move.

Cowley was on the bench for Saturday's 3-0 win at Bedworth United as Phillips' side continued their charge towards the Western Division title and promotion.

Stourport Swifts boss Tim Langford was prepared to allow the move as the right winger, on contract at Walshes Meadow, is desperate to play at a higher level and would command a transfer fee.

Langford maintained Cowley's absence would not hinder their progress though, with Sean Wright and Matt Beard promoted to the first 11, they lost 2-0 at Gloucester on Saturday.

But he insisted at the weekend: "Alex wants to play at a higher level and I won't stand in the way of a player who wants to better himself.

"He's effectively on a two-month trial but if Halesowen want to take him on, we would have to negotiate a fee as Alex is on contract with us."

And Halesowen manager Phillips said: "Every time we've seen Alex this season he has impressed us.

"So we're having a look at him until the end of the season to see how he would fit into the squad.

"He lives locally and wants to play for Halesowen although he's not the finished article at the moment."

Cowley has scored eight goals this season and produced a string of sparkling displays for Swifts.
