THE recent unseasonably warm weather led to a spate of grass fires on Kidderminster's Rifle Range estate.

The outbreaks prompted fire chiefs to warn the public to take extra care over items like discarded cigarettes during extended dry spells.

Kidderminster station officer David Williams said firefighters had to deal with incidents on the Rifle Range over last weekend.

"It's very dry up there and people are not being as careful as they could," he explained.

In one instance, at around 5.20pm last Saturday, 200 sq metres of grass caught fire in Tolley Road.
