Telford 3 Cleobury 0

Cleobury saw their hard work and commitment in this Hereford and Worcester Ladies Volleyball League game pay off after putting up a good fight against county rivals Telford.

The relatively new team has improved greatly over the season and, despite losing the match 3-0, the girls can be proud of their performance and dedication to the sport.

The first set opened with good passing and hitting from both sides. It was an even game with Cleobury desperate to creep ahead.

Player of the match Corrina Downes produced a textbook block but somehow Telford managed to pick up the ball, taking Cleobury by surprise.

Julie White passed excellently throughout but Telford took the set 25-15.

Cleobury went into the second set with determination, strong hitting and passing by Julie Millichamp and Louise Rochell moved them up the scoreboard.

Telford's more experienced players managed to find the floor easily a number of times, putting pressure on the away side to defend.

Amanda Price set up a good ball for wing hitter Dani Hinves, who spiked it over the net to pull the score back but, once again Telford got the upper hand and the set finished 25-16.

Cleobury knew they had some work to do in the third set to be in with a chance of winning, and almost came up with the goods. Tina Bate was strong at the net and Robyn Slingsby served two aces to take the score to 9-13.

The battle to take the set - and for Telford the match - saw a painfully slow progression of points

with both teams fighting to convert chances.

Telford took the set 25-21 but Cleobury can again be proud of their performance as the volleyball season draws to a close.
