SAM Shilton will be hoping the goal at Scunthorpe United has kick-started his Kidderminster Harriers career.

Before Saturday, the son of England goalkeeping legend Peter had started just three Division Three games since last October.

In the final year of his contract, Shilton probably had his best game for the club after being switched to left wing-back.

It was a position he played in at previous club Hartlepool United.

Shilton, 24, admitted: "I quite enjoyed it out there. I played down at Bournemouth and it went quite well but then we changed the system again.

"All I can do is keep plugging away when I get the chance and try to do my best.

"I think we deserved three points at Scunthorpe. We looked really good in the formation, attacked well and kept the ball."

The Nottingham-born player was encouraged by the debuts of Wolves' players John 'JJ' Melligan and Mark Clyde.

Shilton added: "JJ looked really good bringing the ball forward and Mark was comfortable at the back.

"He dealt with them well, considering they have a couple of dangerous front-men.

"I also thought Craig (Hinton) did very well up against Peter Beagrie who ended up coming off.

"But then everyone did well as it was a real team effort. It was just a shame that their lad scored a wonder goal to equalise.

"We were disappointed to come to Scunthorpe and get a draw. That's a measure of how well we've played.

"They have been near the play-offs the last couple of seasons so it's not a bad result in the end.

"But we need a win or two soon to push us into the top ten."

If Ian Britton sticks with the 3-5-2 formation, then Shilton will aim to continue to keep Ian Joy out of the side.
