BROMSGROVE District Council was seriously considering getting tougher with drivers who failed to pay their parking fees. Presently the attendant placed a notice on the windscreen of an erring motorist but it was not considered worth the time and trouble pursuing it further. A survey revealed a third of drivers flouted the new parking regulations that netted the authority some £2,000 a month.

BROMSGROVE'S British Legion members enjoyed a last pint in their old headquarters in Worcester Road which they had occupied for 30 years and which was to be bulldozed to make way for an exclusive squash club. They planned to move temporarily to share the DDS and S Club in Stourbridge Road, until new premises could be found.

Councillors were calling for a safe haven to be set up, possible in the Alms Houses in Stratford Road or the house in Stourbridge Road which had recently, controversially, been occupied previously by Asian refugees.

REVISED plans for Bromsgrove's new police station in the Crescent were rubber stamped by planning committee councillors when it came before them for consideration this week. The design had previously been likened to Dartmoor prison.
