BROMSGROVE'S first traffic warden was sworn in by town magistrates on Tuesday. He was retired policeman John Tasker who had spent much of his 28 years in the force on the Catshill beat. Clad in a blue mackintosh and peaked cap and sporting white gloves his duty was to help pupils at Stourbridge Road School cross the busy main road.

A VIOLENT snowstorm swept Britain at the weekend leaving Monument Lane on the Lickey blocked by five-feet deep drifts. Snowploughs had to be brought out to clear Romsley and Walton hills and at Egghill Lane in Frankley a car was buried in a seven-foot drift. A coach party of pupils from Bromsgrove Preparatory School on a trip to watch the rugby international at Twickenham got stuck several times going to and from London.

BROMSGROVE Rifle Club unveiled its new range. It had been constructed in the basement of the new Hundred House pub in Stourbridge Road. Its previous headquarters in the Drill Hall, had become cramped because of the quantity of military equipment stored there.

THE Worcestershire Hunt point-to-point was held in atrocious weather at the popular Crowle course near Droitwich Spa. Biggest upset of the day was Miss Pat Rushton from Phepson Manor on board her odds on favourite Episil who could only manage second in the Ladies' open race.

BROMSGROVE residents would not be short of something to do this Easter. The Midland Red bus company was running day tours to Weston for 14/6 (72.5p), and British Rail was off to Villa park for the match against Fulham at a cost of 2/9 (14p) return from Stoke Works station. Vernon Adcock was organising another of his dances at Bilberry Hill Restaurant in Rednal at 3/5 (17.5p) a head.
