I HAVE read the letters concerning Councillor Tom Wareing and The Dreamboys with interest over the last few weeks.

It is ridiculous that "good old-fashioned entertainment" is still being imposed upon large numbers of people, especially younger people who no longer want it any more than they want good old fashioned English side whiskers, thick underclothing or heavy meals.

It is imposed upon them legally and by force, not by mere suggestion; and the reason the imposition is still successful is that in most provincial towns, like Redditch, the authority is largely in the hands of elderly men (like Mr Wareing) who are not in sympathy with the desires of newer generations.

And what these elderly men do not want, nobody else shall have. Their attitude is a thoroughly dog-in-the-mangerish one.

There is in this town far too much grudging envy masquerading as religious conviction and austere civic virtue.

People like Mr Wareing have always been disgusted by the sight of young people monkey-parading, yet it is these same elderly citizens who have seen to it that nearly all doors leading out of the street shall be locked against these young people.

They cannot see films, so they go and see The Dreamboys instead. I am afraid Mr Wareing cannot have it both ways.
