THE headline "Trust Bosses must go now" relating to the statement by Councillor Richard Udall is (I think )the first forthwright criticism from the Labour side.

I feel it is worthy of more consideration than the response of the trust that "ill-informed and speculative criticisms of the trust will do nothing to help our staff".

In addition, the points raised by him are said to be untrue. This, of course, must be open to question.

As always, the executive attempts to imply that any criticism will "upset the staff" but all the letters and editorial comments that I have read have always been fulsome in their praise of the personnel at the "sharp end" who, it still appears, are reluctant to voice their feelings other than anonymously.

It seems that whenever there is a situation attracting the obvious disquiet of the public, our Prime Minister takes personal charge and many promises are made and targets set.

While I am delighted to see Mike Foster finally adopting a high profile in this matter, it does seem to have come about following representations in and out of Parliament by other MPs.

I do seem to see a similarity with the Blair strategy here, but if it produces results that benefit staff and patients, I would be the first to give credit where it may be due, despite the catalyst that may have brought it about.
