YOUR report of a 19th Century map of St John's (Evening News, February 12) reminds me of the following description.
"The church of St John in Worcester is situated on a pleasing eminence overlooking the river Severn. A perambulation of the meadows adjacent to this picturesque church on a Sunday afternoon when the bells are chiming for Divine Service, their notes in the distance falling on the ear, is an enjoyment never to be forgotten."
It appeared in The Bell News and Ringers' Record, a national publication dated January 13, 1883 in connection with a report of New Year festivities in St John's.
Harvey Reeves, the Worcester-born editor was apparently adding his own reminiscence.
