TAXI fares are to increase by about 6 per cent in the Malvern Hills district from the start of April.
The district council's executive committee has approved an increase in fares equating to an extra 15p for the first mile in tariff one, bringing it to £2.75.
Hirings that begin between midnight and 7am and on Sundays and Bank holidays will increase by 10p for the first mile to £4, while hirings in tariff three, which includes Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, will increase by 30p to £5.50 for the first mile.
According to the Open Taxi Forum, the rises are the result of additional costs of the council's licence fees and general rising operating costs.
