THE plans for a new state-of-the-art school for the children of St John's and Dines Green are currently on display to show the public what it could look like.

The Evening News asked members of the public what they would like to see if a new Christopher Whitehead school could be built from scratch.

"I'm going to have a look at the plans tomorrow," said housewife Sarah Madly, aged 32, of Blenheim Road.

"I've got an eight-year-old as well as a two and three-year-old, who could go there. I'd like to see an athletics track and maybe a swimming pool. The nearest one at the moment is Lower Wick."

One parent who was not too keen on the plans was Jeremy Winwood, who lives in Malvern Road, opposite the new school.

"We'd like a modern school but one that's local," said Mr Winwood, a 31-year-old graphic designer.

"I'd like to see plenty of local transport. It would be nice to have plenty of playing fields as long as they've got the teachers to teach them."

Moira Brewis, of Tudor Way, wanted a new swimming pool.

"I'd like to see a big sports complex, that's really important, as well as a swimming pool," said Mrs Brewis, a 44-year-old Reality worker.

"They're having to go to a local pool at the moment."

Denise Griffin hadn't seen the plans but was hoping any new school would offer better sports facilities.

"I'd also like to see more computers and technology," said the 41-year-old pensions officer from Andrew Close, St John's.

"I've been round the current school and it's quite good but the sports is lacking. It's nowhere as good as The Chantry, in Martley."

Sports facilities would also be useful for the children of Tracey McKeown.

"I've got boys and they need the sports facilities for their football," said the 39-year-old beauty consultant of Comer Gardens.

"Anything sporty would be good and they should also have the latest computer facilities."
