MORE than 1,000 people flocked to the grand opening of an office supplies superstore.

The new Staples store, on Shrub Hill Retail Park, in Worcester, celebrated in style with a day of record sales.

The opening followed a successful business preview day, on Thursday, February 13, when it opened 300 business accounts.

Sales for the first week of trading have topped £125,000.

"After such a successful preview day I knew we would be busy but I hadn't anticipated that so many people would turn up," said store manager Ian Skitt.

Queueing

"Customers were literally queueing around the building to get in. It was fantastic."

Mr Skitt invited the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Robert Rowden, to officially open the store.

Mr Skitt and Gail Hull, Staples' district manager, presented the Mayor with a £250 donation towards his charities, the Worcestershire Association for the Blind and St Richard's Hospice.

"It was an honour to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress to the store on Saturday and myself and the team were delighted to be able to make a contribution to the local community.

"The grand opening resulted in a day of record sales and I hope this is a sign of the success to come!"
