A daredevil challenge in Austria awaits a town woman who is planning to raise money for the charity SCOPE.

Emma Murphy, who is studying management with Spanish at the University of Lancaster, is planning to do the 'White Peak Challenge' which means she will ski 24 peaks in 48 hours.

Emma's parents, who live at Tutnall, near Finstall, say they think she's mad but they're very proud of her.

Emma has made a habit of pushing herself to the limit. She has run the Reading half-marathon and last year she cycled from Birmingham to Land's End to raise money for people suffering with Alzheimer's disease.

Training

She plays hockey and is a member of the university ski team but Emma has had to step up her training in preparation for what will be a long 48 hours in March.

"I know I'm going to be really tired," admits Emma, "but I'm really looking forward to the challenge."

The ex-Bromsgrove school pupil lived in Madrid last year and wants to do more travelling when she graduates in June and she hopes to fit in some more challenges along the way.

Emma needs to raise £1,250 for the challenge so she is organising a raffle and holding a slave auction of her ski team-mates.
