PRIYA Mitchell, who is performing at Malvern Concert Club's next event, is one of the foremost violinists of her generation, according to critics.

Priya has played worldwide and has joined Malvern-based Nigel Kennedy for performances of the Bach Concerto for Two Violins.

The concert, on Thursday, is one of three this season which will feature Elgar's mature chamber works, in this case the Sonata in E minor, Op 82.

Beethoven's best-loved sonata, No 9 in A, Op 47 "Kreutzer" is also included, as is Janek's Sonata (1914) and Webern's Four Pieces, Op 7.

Priya Mitchell studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and subsequently became one of the European Concert Halls Organisation's Rising Stars, which saw her playing at such venues as Birmingham's Sym-phony Hall and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw.

Her major London debut was in 1998, performing the Sibelius Concerto at the Albert Hall with the Royal Philhar-monic Orchestra.

Since then she has played with most of the major orchestras in the UK and Europe.

A veteran of international music festivals, Priya launched her own, the Oxford Chamber Music Festival in 2000, to great acclaim.

She will be accompanied on piano by Ian Brown, probably the best-known duo partner for instrumentalists in the country.

He has partnered the world's greatest musicians, including Elizabeth Sderstrom, Felicity Lott, Mstislav Rostropovich and Gyrgy Pauk.

His career also embraces solo performance, often of newly commissioned works, and conducting some of Britain's leading orchestras.

The concert is on at 7.30pm, at Malvern Theatres. Tickets are £12, £11 concessions or £5 students. They are available from the Malvern Theatres box office on 01684 892277.
