The letter from N F Savage (Your Letters, February 14) in which he encapsulated the views of both contributors to your News Writing Competition and correspondents to the letters page was a wake up call to anyone who purports to care about Malvern and its future.
The cold hard fact of the matter is that the body that should play a lead role in bringing about the improvements that are needed, MHDC, is in all probability running out of time to bring them about. If anyone doubts this I would refer them to the comments made by a spokesman from the office of the Deputy Prime Minister in the article regarding regional government stating that a review of local government would be part of the package (Malvern Gazette, February 14).
It may very well be that the elections in May for MHDC could well be the "last chance saloon" to bring about the changes and initiatives such as affordable housing and a sports hall that are desperately needed. The resources are there waiting to be used. All it requires are individuals with the vision and will to bring it all to fruition. Let us all fervently hope that regardless of any political affiliation or none that they stand for election before it's too late.
Clive Smith, Greenfields Road, Malvern Link.
