THE mayor of Malvern has defended her actions following the resignation of a town councillor last week.
Coun Frances Victory expressed disappointment that former Malvern Town Action Group councillor Alistair Macmillan had decided to resign, following a disagreement over standing orders at a meeting.
"As mayor and chairman of full council meetings I, like all other members, must comply with the accepted standing orders of the council," Coun Victory said. "These standing orders are in place to ensure compliance with the law, thus ensuring that all decisions made by the council are above challenge.
"It is with regret that Alistair Macmillan felt aggrieved that the standing orders had not allowed him full participation in the debate on this occasion and has taken this step."
Mr Macmillan has said he intends to stand for re-election in May.
