NEIGHBOURHOOD Warden Norman Barrow has become a hero to residents for fighting vandalism on the Langland estate.

Mr Barrow hid behind a hedge to take photographs of a group of vandals who were attacking a house before chasing the gang away.

"The photos I took are in the hands of the police. We work very closely on liaison with that type of thing," said Mr Barrow.

He vowed to defend the homes of residents from attack and said the areas he had so far targeted remained vandal-free.

"After only a short time in the post, Norman is proving to be an effective community warden. He is making local residents feel more safe and secure in their homes," said Richard Grounds, commercial director of the Festival Housing Group, which employs Mr Barrow.

Police spokesman Kim Stain said Mr Barrow had received special training alongside the police before photographing the vandals.

"It's not something we would advise members of the public to do," she said.
