A VISIT from a bogus water board official led to the theft of £500 from the farm home of an elderly Upton resident.
The visitor stated there was a water leak outside the house when he called at 2.30pm on Monday.
Expecting a visit from his doctor, the resident had left the door open and invited the man in on hearing the knock at the door.
The bogus official then asked the man to join him outside to look at the supposed leak. On returning inside he found that someone else had been into his home and stolen his money.
Police are urging residents to only allow people into their homes when they are sure of their identity. Always ask for identification and if you are suspicious call the police. Anyone with any information can call police on 08457 444 888 quoting c/668053.
