COLWALL remain in fourth place, three points behind third placed Clifton after their 2-2 draw in this West Women's Premier Division One fixture.
CLIFTON LADIES II 2, COLWALL I 2
This was Colwall's second draw in succession and the slipping points are frustrating Colwall's attempt to get amongst the leaders.
Colwall started slowly, with Anna Price making some good saves but Colwall soon began to break down the passing game of Clifton and a good move down the right saw Karen Hackley's cross earn a short corner from which Nina Emery hit an unstoppable shot to take the lead.
Clifton responded and put pressure on Colwall and equalised with a well worked short corner. Both sides then had a period of tentative play, neither one able to find the breakthrough.
Clifton took a controversial 2-1 lead when awarded a penalty stroke, Anna Price making a good save, but she was deemed to have pushed the ball away with her arm rather than her stick.
Colwall were determined to atone for the goal and equalised with an excellent goal from within their own half. Hackley's infield pass finding Polly Bounds whose pin point pass found Hackley again. She deftly went past the last defender to run half the length of the pitch, drawing the goal keeper to slip the ball to Jackie Styles who made no mistake with the finish.
Colwall pushed forward for the three points in a goalless second half but good saves from Gemma Richard, Hackley and Emery and a stubborn defence frustrated Colwall again who had played well enough to win.
Colwall resume their league fixtures in a re-arranged game away at Exeter Ladies I on March 1.
