ON Saturday, March 1, there is a quiz night being held at Powick Parish Hall, organised by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust Fund (Malvern Group). Teams of four are required, £12 a team and the competition runs from 7.30pm with a prompt start at 8pm. Cost includes a light supper. To book a table ring (01886) 884372.

Members of the local group of the RSPB crowded into Powick Parish Hall last Wednesday evening to hear Paul Denning from Pontypridd illustrate his journey along the Rocky Mountains in the United States with slides. Starting from Denver he and his wife had travelled north via the hills of Dakota to Yellow Stone National Park. En- route they passed the town of Custer and the old frontier forts now restored as part of the state's heritage and including Indian tee pees. Among the wildlife photographed were buffalo, blackbirds, butterflies and bald eagles.

Next month's meeting is on Wednesday, March 12, in Powick Parish Hall entitled A Bird's Eye View of Lesvos by Wendy Conway at 7.30pm. In order to raise funds a second hand paperback books stall will be available.

At evensong last Sunday at St Peter's Church, Powick the theme was marriage. Couples had the opportunity during the service to renew their marriage vows, and the hymns reflected the theme - many of them in fact are often requested at wedding. Marian Lewis read the lesson and prayers were led by Meg Allsopp. Reverend David Nichol took the service and invited Don and Barbara Hill to cut the large, beautifully iced wedding cake made by Neville Radburn. Following the service a slice of cake and a cup of tea were distributed to all.
