A SNAKE found outside a Worcester nightclub, is about to be given a new home.

The 12-inch American corn snake was discovered on a pavement outside Tramps nightclub, in Angel Street, Worcester, just before Christmas.

Shocked passers-by called police, who took the slippery customer back to Castle Street police station.

It was then taken to the Vale Wildlife Rescue Centre, near Evesham, by an RSPCA officer.

Last month, the Evening News reported how the centre was looking for a new owner for the reptile after its rightful owner failed to come forward.

A Worcester man called the centre to say he had lost a similar snake four months ago, but failed to call again.

"We have received quite a few calls and had quite a few offers since the Evening News story, but we want to make sure the snake is going to a suitable home," said Martin Brookes, assistant manager at the centre.

"We will be doing a house check in a week or two to see if it is suitable for the snake."

The mystery snake-lovers are believed to live in the county, but Mr Brookes would not reveal their whereabouts.

The reptile, which is about the same diameter as a 10 pence piece, has been feeding well since it was found on Sunday, December 22.

Mr Brookes said it was important people knew what they were doing when it came to caring for a snake.

"We need to make sure they know how to look after these creatures," he said.

"Snakes need special requirements, lighting and heating. We need to make sure the snake will be well looked after."
