At the February meeting at The Bull, Cookley, Betty Caswell spoke about Church History.

After the Cookley Charter of 964, the village grew around the River Stour before the canal was built. The water powered the mills, supplied the villagers and watered crops.

In the 17th century most land was owned by the Sebright family, who set up a Grammar School Trust in Wolverley (to include Cookley) in the 1620s and provided land for the building of St Peter's Church in 1849.

Mrs Caswell showed photographs and encouraged members' recollections of village events over the years.

The WI annual meeting is on March 25 at Malvern, and the Leys group meeting is at Kinver on April 10.

The spring fair will be held in Sebright First School, Cookley, on March 29.

On March 10, T Church will speak about The past 60 years, starting at 7.15pm, at The Bull. The competition will be "something suitable for pawning".
