THE builders were due to move into an Evesham school yesterday to begin work on refurbishments costing £200,000.
The upgrading, at St Egwin's CE Primary, Worcester Road, involves staff room and library extensions as well as internal refurbishment.
The work will be carried out by Evesham builders, Meades, on behalf of Worcestershire County Council.
The council's property services department was responsible for the design of the refurbishments.
St Egwin's has 324 pupils and the beginning of the work, which is due to continue for 20 weeks, was timed to coincide with half-term.
Funding for the improvements has come from a number of sources, including a county council schools modernisation budget.
Cash from a disability works budget is helping pay for the installation of disabled toilets, in line with legislative requirements.
