CHESS: Jenny Wrench made an unexpected debut for Kidderminster Knights against Headless Cross in Worcester and District League Division One.
Skipper John Wrench, a player short, drafted his 21-year-old daughter into the team.
But Jenny had to face Headless Cross' John Holmberg who has played chess for 77 years.
Despite a valiant effort considering she had only previously competed on the internet, the rookie was forced into submission.
Kidderminster won 2.5-1.5, keeping up their hopes of retaining the title, and it is hoped Jenny will appear again for a town team.
Full results (Kidderminster first): Frank Pickett 1, R Saunders 0; John Wrench 1, M Hore 0; Dave Close 0.5, P Wood 0.5; Jenny Wrench 0, Holmberg 1.
