HOCKEY: Kidderminster were left ruing their missed chances after a 6-2 home defeat to Finchfield in DTZ League Midlands One.

They remain bottom of the table after taking the lead following a strong start though they failed to capitalise fully on long periods of possession.

However, Gary Burkes did put the town on the scoresheet with a goal from a short corner on 20 minutes.

Finchfield struck back immediately when the home defence found themselves out-numbered.

Kidderminster went behind just before the break and never really got back into the game.

An instinctive Rupert Upshon strike was all they had to show from some good periods of play, overshadowed by four more Finchfield goals.

They were caused by Kidderminster throwing too many men forward but the scoreline flattered Finchfield who capitalised on their goal-scoring chances.

The thirds found themselves two goals down at half-time due a poor performance against the leaders.

After a strong talking-to, Kidderminster took the game to their visitors who sat onto their lead.

Keith Burgess profited from a defensive mix-up to pull one goal back and then grabbed a deserved equaliser from a well-worked short corner as the visitors pressed for another goal.

The thirds played again on Sunday in a re-arranged DTZ League match but went down to strong opposition despite goals from Burgess and Marcus Murcott.
