A WEBHEATH couple had an extra celebration over Christmas when they marked their diamond wedding anniversary.
Joyce and Wilfrid Wormington, of Sheltwood Close, Webheath, celebrated their 60 years together with family, friends and neighbours on Boxing Day.
The couple were married at St Bartholomew's Church in Tardebigge in 1942 just before Mr Wormington was sent off to serve in the RAF in India and Burma as a winch operator on Hawker Henley aeroplanes.
Mrs Wormington worked in the wages department of Royal Enfield motorcycles at the time.
But both have known each other since childhood as they had parents who worked on the Earl of Plymouth's estate at Hewell Grange.
After returning from the war, Mr Wormington became a painter and decorator and joined the special police constabulary in Redditch where he became a sergeant.
Mrs Wormington brought up the couple's four sons and they are now proud grandparents of seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
