A RELEGATION-dodging 40-point Dr Martens Western Division target has been set by Stourport Swifts boss Dave Titterton.

The Walshes Meadow side are in high spirits after two important results in four days lifted them to fourth from bottom on 22 points.

Swifts won 3-1 at county rivals Evesham on New Year's Day and then defeated fellow strugglers Racing Club Warwick 2-1 on Saturday.

A delighted Titterton declared: "We carried a great win forward to the Warwick match which was a bigger game for us.

"And we could have scored a hell of a lot more. No offence to Warwick but they were the poorest team we've played so far.

"The momentum at the club has really taken off and we just need to add to it. We've got to be looking at 40 points now.

"We are 17 points clear of Swindon and 13 away from Warwick but we are certainly not going to rest on our laurels. That's not for me or the lads.

"There's still a lot of hard work to be done but the good thing is through all the knock-backs, there's always been something positive to look at."

Swifts' strong team spirit continued with a 10-pin bowling trip on Tuesday ahead of training on Thursday and Saturday's test at promotion-chasing Merthyr Tydfil.

The Welshmen came away from Stourport with a controversial 3-2 win in November after a late comeback aided by red cards for Titterton and Leon Blake.

It will not be easy for Swifts who are without Kerry Giddings (holiday), Tim Nicholls (suspended) and Peter Sutton (ill) along with the injured John Shirley (knee) and John Cotterill (groin).

Titterton's loan bid for a Dr Martens Premier Division keeper failed as the player decided to stay and fight for a first-team spot at his club.

But there was praise for fit-again striker Michael Moore who scored twice in Saturday's win.

Titterton added: "I'm pleased for Michael. He's a proven goal-scorer but I still think he has got something else to prove.

"Other people have told him he hasn't got the appetite for the game and these goals have shown a few managers otherwise.

"Michael and Richard Ball are both 20-goal-a-season strikers. I want more goals from all over the pitch though."
