DID I miss some information over Christmas about a VIP dying in Bewdley?
I began to wonder when I went to the front of St Anne's Church on New Year's Eve and, in spite of some 800 people being there, it was more like a wake than a celebration to welcome in a New Year.
The church clock was in darkness, as was the cross, which was no longer flashing, and although the bells had been chiming at 11.45pm and did so again at 12.10am, at midnight there was utter silence, and people were having to try to see their own watches.
Even then, when everyone was sure it had gone midnight, there was still comparative silence. No-one joined hands to sing Auld Lang Syne.
Surely, if the clock was not working one bell could have chimed 12, or did no-one think of broadcasting the chimes of Big Ben over a loudspeaker and then playing Auld Lang Syne?
Everyone is complaining that Bewdley is dying. It think it is now well and truly deceased. Perhaps our Health Concern councillors can take a crash course in resuscitation.
