DANCE, drama and a barrel of laughs are in store for audiences at the Royal Shakespeare and Swan theatres in Stratford during the Spring Visitors Season, which begins next month.

Adam Faith and Lesley Joseph top the list of celebrities, with well-known comic acts following a run of local productions.

The season opens at the Swan Theatre with the Union Dance Company, on February 1. Permanent Revolution V2R brings together the talents of choreographers Dough Elkins, Vincent Mantsoe and Bawren Tavaziva with multi-media artists Thomas Gray and Derek Richards.

This is followed a one-woman show, Diatribe of Love, on Tuesday February 4. Written by Gabriela Garcia Marquez, and performed by Linda Marlowe (of Berkoff's Women fame), this is a study of one woman's past and present dilemma.

A biography of Samuel Johnson, Johnson is Leaving, runs for two nights on February 5 and 6 and is followed by Bill Bryson's Notes From A Small Island with Steve Steen and Paul Hodson on February 7 and 8.

Wilson Roberts Productions presents Toad of Toad Hall from Tuesday February 11 to Saturday 15 and the Stratford upon Avon Gilbert and Sullivan Society presents The Mikado from Wednesday, February 19 to Saturday 22.

A "week with laughter", at the Swan Theatre from February 24 to March 2, includes names such as Rhona Cameron, (who spoke her mind in I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here as well as making numerous appearances on Have I Got News For You and The Stand Up Show), Ed Byrne, Mark Thomas and Ross Noble.

Meanwhile in the main house Stratford Operatic Society makes a welcome return with the Gershwin classic Crazy for You, which runs at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from Tuesday, February 18 to Saturday 22. This is followed by the first of two plays from Theatre Royal Bath Productions, Love and Marriage, starring Adam Faith as a serial philanderer called Bill. Lesley Joseph (Dorien in Birds of a Feather) stars with Edward Hardwicke in Alan Bennett's Office Suite from Monday, March 3 to March 8. The season is rounded off with a Royal National Theatre production of Noises Off starring Paul Bradley, Cheryl Campbell, Philip Franks and Sylvester McCoy, from Monday, March 10 to 15.
