Redditch Cricket, Hockey and Rugby club have mourned the loss of life member and former president Noel Green.

Mr Green, passed away just before Christmas after a lifetime of service to club and town.

A keen cricketer, Green joined the club as a teenager just before the start of the Second World War, swiftly becoming a committee member.

In the 1960's, Green oversaw the reformation of Redditch Rugby Club and even provided a pitch for them on his family farm.

In the 70's he became vice chairman and was appointed chairman in 1980 and president from 1984-2001.

After resigning from office he was elected life member and continued to serve as a director.

During Mr Green's membership the sporting club built a new clubhouse, installed the first redgra hockey pitch and squash courts in Redditch, the first floodlit astro pitch in the county and built new changing rooms.

Mr Green also found time to serve on Alcester Rural District Council.

His wife Jo died early last year.

The sporting club's honorary general secretary David Eley said: "Noel will be sorely missed at the club and we extend our sympathies to his sons Michael and James at this sad time."
