SCHOOL: One of the most eagerly awaited events at Christmas time in Ilmington is the school pantomime.

This year's offering was a wonderful show - Cinderella and the 13 dwarfs - Yes! 13 dwarfs. With a cast of the entire school of 109 it was obviously a good ploy to enlarge the normal contingent of little men to give more named parts but Cinderella? What about Snow White? Oh yes! She duly appeared as did the wicked and good fairies and the two ugly sisters.

Confused? Miss Henry, the head teacher in her pre-show talk, said she hoped that the audience would understand the story line. She need not have worried. The show went along at a brisk pace without a hitch.

There was much humour and fun with the audience appreciating the topical 'in-jokes'. Typical joke was that the prince did not have to try a dainty shoe on the suitors but a large pair of wellington boots.

The pantomime was skilfully written by members of the staff interspersed with well-known songs - including at least one Beatles number.

Miss Henry was the hard working 'band'. One must congratulate the school both the teachers and all the pupils for another great festive success. Ilmington school, after the last performance league tables, shows that not only does the school work hard but also plays hard.
