TWO stalwarts of the Severn Valley Railway have bid a fond farewell after more than 60 years combined voluntary service.
Train driver Jack Beaman and guard Derek Simpkiss have retired after reaching the age of 70.
Mr Beaman, who was a train driver by profession, was with the 16-mile Kidderminster to Bridgnorth railway since 1967 while Mr Simpkiss, who was train crew manager, has worked for the railway since the late 70s.
They were also founder members of the railway's junior club, set up 13 years ago, which introduces children to life on the line.
Fellow founding member Roger Hobson said: "They have done a great job encouraging many junior members to enjoy life at the railway. Many have gone on to continue being volunteers as adults."
SVR marketing manager John Leach said: "The main thing is the amazing loyalty they have shown to the Severn Valley Railway.
"Both were involved in training and have been a great asset to us and will be greatly missed."
