UNEMPLOYED people who want to find help with getting a job still have time to apply for a special course at Worcester YMCA.

The 10-week course, called You Can Do It, was launched in July last year to target the long-term unemployed.

The course helps out-of-work people with presentation skills, voice workshops and mock interviews.

In July last year, the Evening News reported how the project was funded by a Community First Action for Learning grant of £4,674 to pay for the two intensive You Can Do It programmes.

The second programme is now due to run from Tuesday, January 14, to Tuesday, March 18.

"We have eight to 10 places but four are taken so far," said Mel Smith, community co-ordinator at the YMCA, in St John's.

"We will use people from local businesses to conduct mock interviews."

The course, which will be held at the YMCA in Henwick Road, will show people how to dress for interview on a low budget by providing supervised spending of a £50 clothing grant.

The YMCA is working with the JobCentre and the New Deal voluntary sector to put clients in touch with the course.

"Someone from University College Worcester did voice workshops last time, so hopefully they will do them again," said Mrs Smith.

"It's going to be more or less the same as last time but pretty much dictated by the group.

"Anything they need to address will be taken into consideration.

"We are looking for the more long-term unemployed and there are no age requirements."

A month after the course ends, tutors will review students' progress in their job searches and offer extra support if needed.
