LEFT-BACK Scott Stamps was the main cause for concern after he was stretchered off in Kidderminster Harriers' 2-0 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers last night.

The much-awaited friendly, watched by 2,696 fans, turned into something of a disappointment.

A below-par Harriers display was nowhere near enough to trouble their big Division One opponents who were made up mainly of reserves.

Stamps' 78th-minute injury made matters worse for the home side as he went over on his left ankle in a challenge with sub Patrick Flynn.

Boss Ian Britton, keen to avoid early injuries in his small squad, was hopeful the problem was just bruising.

Wolves did include experienced players in Mo Camara, Sean Connelly, Michael Branch, George Ndah and Adam Proudlock.

They had ex-Harriers loan forward Colin Larkin looking lively in attack.

Britton's team struggled to produce their crisp passing game and a cutting edge was virtually non-existent.

Proudlock grabbed both goals, capitalising on slack defending from Lee Ayres and then scoring a controversial late penalty.

But pre-season form means little and the important game will be on Saturday, August 10, against Lincoln City in Division Three.

Larkin was to have a good game against his old team-mates and he headed over on 16 minutes.

Harriers threatened when the tightly marked Drewe Broughton rose well to meet Andrew Ducros' corner but the ball flew over the bar.

Larkin provided Proudlock with an excellent chance for the visitors on 31 minutes but keeper Stuart Brock saved well with his legs.

But there was no let-off on 39 minutes when Ayres misjudged Mark Clyde's long pass and let in Larkin who supplied Proudlock for a tap-in.

Disjointed Harriers improved slightly in the second half with Broughton again directing a header over.

Danny Williams supplied Ian Foster on the hour but the front-man lifted the ball well off-target.

Summer signing Sean Parrish blasted a 25-yarder straight at sub keeper Matt Murray in the 72nd minute.

But Wolves' final attack mattered as Parrish was judged to have handled youngster Ashley Vincent's cross and Proudlock scored from the spot.
