IT WILL be back to basics for Stourport Swifts this week as the Walshes Meadow side struggle to pick themselves up following their 4-1 FA Cup drubbing at the hands of Alfreton Town.

The Unibond Division One side were never in trouble in a one-sided preliminary round game at Walshes Meadow and Swifts assistant manager Jan Mulders had no complaints.

Mulders said: "It was a very frustrating performance but a fair result. We will go back to basics in training on Tuesday. We have to get our confidence back.

"The FA Cup is important for the club because of the money it can bring in but we are never going to win it so I am more interested in the league.

"We have to think of Cinderford on Saturday and will train Tuesday and Thursday and work on some things that have been going wrong."

Plenty went wrong against Alfreton who had coasted into a 3-0 lead by the break against a Swifts side reduced to ten players following the dismissal of defender Dave Davies.

Ryan France headed home the opener on 16 minutes following good work by winger Chris Dolby with Davies being given a red card on the half-hour when he handled a France shot.

Michael Godber scored from the resultant penalty.

Godber made it 3-0 late in the half before Mulders reduced the arrears on 53 minutes, firing home a penalty awarded for a foul on Kerry Giddings.

But Alfreton rarely looked like relinquishing their lead and they wrapped up the scoring in injury time when Mark Highfield volleyed home.
