TAKE your chances or kiss goodbye to the title -- that was the blunt message after Worcester City squandered three points against Welling United.

Assistant manager Mick Tuohy despite being pleased with his side's second-half comeback against the Wings admitted they cannot go on spurning scoring opportunities.

David Holmes snatched a point with a late goal in the 1-1 draw but for the second game in succession City failed to convert their chances.

"We were disappointed to lose to Newport but we deserved to get something out of the Welling game," said Tuohy.

"Possession wise we deserved at least a draw but we can't keep having gilt-edged chances and not putting them away -- that is the difference between winning leagues and being nothing more than also rans.

"The one quality on show was that we managed to get something out of the game when we were not at our best.

"Welling had set out their stall out and after getting the early goal were quite happy to sit behind in numbers."

City will hope to have Jon Holloway back for the New Year's Day clash with Hednesford. He has missed the last two matches through illness and turned up on Saturday but was subsequently sent home.

City also have a number of players carrying knocks.

Mark Blount, Allan Davies, John Snape, Adam Webster and Adam Wilde will all be in for treatment tonight though all are expected to be available for Hednesford.

Tuohy is hoping that the Newport and Welling games were just a blip and is relishing the chance of taking three points at St George's Lane on Wednesday, which would put them in good stead for next Saturday's title showdown at leaders Tamworth.

"We're looking forward to Hednesford though we've got a few knocks and a few strains but we just might have had our bad run," he said.

"We will be looking to come out firing on all cylinders and getting three points to set us up for Tamworth.

"Because the Tamworth match has come quite early it is not going to determine anything in the title race but it is a big game. Expectation is growing all the time and that is credit to John Barton.

"If we had not finished strongly against Welling I would have been worried but we didn't.

"Results like this happen but the aim remains to finish the league as high as we can and with 18 or so games to go there are plenty of points to play for."
